Patrick Smith Landscape and Seascape Photography
More than just landscapes:
I also photograph buildings and other works of outdoor and indoor architecture. (See
below). The most important aspect, as it is in landscape photography, is light. It may
take many days or even the right time of year for the correct light to appear in or
around a building. And sometimes I employ High Dynamic Range (HDR) processing
since the camera (film or digital) can not capture the full range of brightness that our
own eyes can see. Contact me if you want your place to look its best.
If you have a special place that you wish to have photographed with just the right light,
let me know and I'll put it on my list of places to shoot. It may take months for
conditions to be just right, but eventually everything will come together into a good
photograph. Contact me for more details. Use the Contact Us page or email me
directly at (patrick at patricksmithphotography.com)
In addition to photography, I also restore old images by photographing them and
correcting them in PhotoShop.
Also, I can photograph your artwork or framed photographs using the 21mp Canon 5D
MkII camera. A print up to 32x48 inches can be easily made from a single frame. If you
want a larger print, a stitched image can be made to print at more than double that size
with very fine detail. Contact me for any photographic service.

Personalized Landscape and Seascape photography workshops:
I will be personally be conducting a series of 1-evening/3 hour small-group workshops devoted to
helping you capture in your camera, the kinds of scenery that you see in magazines, galleries, and
photography books. You can be a beginner or someone more advanced who is looking to refine your
art. However, you will get more out of our time if you know how to operate the basic functions of your
camera, since any beginning photography book can teach you those things!
I believe that given enough time and effort, anybody can put on their wall, an exquisite, self-made
work of art that can be enjoyed for a lifetime. The price for a 2-person group is $249/person. A
3-person group is $149/person. And a 4-person group is $125/person. Due to the dangers of
meeting people on the internet, I will not be doing one-on one workshops any more. Sorry!
If you will be in the greater San Francisco area for a day or longer, and have a free evening, we can
schedule to meet at any of a large number of places (mostly beaches.) In the future, I may do this in
Hawaii and other places. Generally, the weekends are best as I'm usually busy during the week.
Here's what you get:
1. Before we meet, you (and your friends) can email me a list of the things you wish to learn and
discuss. And I will also have a good list of things to discuss too. Then you can pay via PayPal (below)
and we'll set up a time and place, which may change according to the weather conditions.
2. We'll meet up, about 3 hours before sunset in order to talk about your goals and learn the
location. If we get rained out (rainy season is Nov.-March), I can refund your PayPal payment or we
can talk photography at a convenient public place for a solid 3 hours.
3. After we are prepared, we will shoot the place together. I am not there to do my own
photography, but for you to do your photography. I will probably make a few photos within 10-20
feet of you in order to show you how I do it so that you can develop your own style. I will help you
with graduated filter use, and everything else you need to capture the best photo possible on the spot.
4. After sunset, we can review your photos on the back of your camera and then later on, you can
upload them to my Flickr discussion group, where I can see them at a large size. I will critique each
photo and we can discuss everything at that point. If you do not belong to Flickr, you can create an
account for free. Then join my discussion group and add your photos. It is easy. If you have
problems just email me. If you do not wish to join Flickr, you can email me the photos and we can
discuss them via email.
5. While on location, I will offer suggestions on:
. How to improve composition and lighting
. Processing techniques that can improve sharpness, dynamic range, color, etc.
. Guidelines on how to choose the best time of day or season of the year
. Hints to help you develop your own style
. Tips on camera equipment that may help your image quality, if new equipment is really needed
. Ideas to help you work with the equipment that you have right now
. Help with how to scout out similar locations
. Thoughts on how to simplify the image
. Other ideas to help you create works of art that you would like to hang on your wall
6. Although I will not be giving specific lessons in Photoshop or post-processing, we can discuss
processing issues on location or afterwards when I see your photos online. I save perhaps 1/10th of
the photos that I make, so don't be afraid to be a tough editor! I do keep some around to remind me
of mistakes however.
If you are interested in this workshop or any possible variation of it, send me an email at: patrick at
patricksmithphotography dot com (where 'at' should be @, and 'dot' should be .
Once we talk it over, you can pay for the workshop below with your credit card via PayPal. It is secure
and I never see your credit card number!
After your purchase:
You will get a confirmation about the payment
and I'll send you an email the next day with the
details. Also, you can send me more
information about the topics you wish to cover.
